Sustainability and Voluntary Principles
The Chamber carries out several activities in conjunction with the Embassy and in May 2018 a training and discussion was held on “Sustainability and Voluntary Principles of Security and Human Rights, with the participation of Fanie V.Thibeault – Ministry of Natural Resources of the Government of Canada ; Felix Caveda – Global Affairs of the Government of Canada and Vera Belazelkoska – Political Economist, Programs Director of the Ulula LLC Company.
In the event, it was known about Corporate Social Responsibility, the strategy of Canada, what are the expectations for doing business in the Canadian style, the global approach of CSR in Canada, mechanisms, tools and resources of Canada to work on CSR.
In terms of the Voluntary Principles, a conference was held in which we analyzed how part of shared social responsibility, the myths that are necessary to destroy to advance in the work together, objectives, benefits and the three central axes; the relationship with the risk assessment was determined, the interaction between the companies, both with the public security forces and with the companies providing private security, looking in turn to create a local multi-worker work group; the case of success was presented in Peru and it was presented that currently 10 countries, 30 oil, gas and mining companies, 13 NGOs and 7 observers are already part of the Voluntary Principles.
The company Ulula presented how it has advanced the use of technological innovation to mitigate social risks in business operations, so that it is possible to advance and automate communication with stakeholders, which in turn seeks that the same companies can measure and manage their social impact and thereby develop transparent and accountable value chains; issues that are very important to minimize violence and social conflicts in the natural resources sector.
